Liz Truss Steps Down As UK PM After Dramatic Six Weeks In Office
Liz Truss has quit as UK's prime minister just six weeks after being appointed to the office.
"I recognise that given the situation I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to notify him that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party. I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen," said Truss said as she announced her resignation.
With just 45 days in office, Truss has become the UK's shortest-serving prime minister.
She succeeded Boris Johnson on September 6 this year, after he had to resign over several scandals.
