Why Adidas Became The Latest Brand To Cut Ties With Kanye West

German sports multinational company Adidas terminated its partnership with rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, following his recent antisemitic remarks.
On Tuesday, the company released a statement, saying "Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness."
In the controversial tweet, Kanye wrote, “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.” The tweet was later removed for violating Twitter policies.
Adidas became the latest brand after Balenciaga, and JP Morgan to snap ties with rapper Ye after his recent antisemitic posts on social media. The posts also resulted in his expulsion from Twitter and Instagram.
His antisemitic tweet and recent comments in interviews with Tucker Carlson, Piers Morgan, and Chris Cuomo also saw talent agency CAA cutting ties with the rapper.
Previously, Kanye made headlines for other controversies that include suggesting slavery being a choice, wearing a "White Lives Matter" t-shirt during the Paris Fashion Week.
The rapper, who changed his legal name to Ye in 2021, also made headlines after fat-shaming pop star Lizzo. Ye said, “Let’s get aside from the fact whether it’s fashion and vogue, which it’s not, or if someone thinks it’s attractive, to each his own, it’s actually clinically unhealthy."
