Just Stop Oil Activist Attempts To Glue Head To Painting, Arrested
Just Stop Oil protester tried to glue himself to an iconic painting at the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague on Thursday.
Johannes Vermeer’s masterpiece 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' at the museum became the latest target of climate protesters.
A video of the incident was shared on social media where two men wearing Just Stop Oil T-shirts stood in front of the painting. One of them tried to glue his shaven head to the painting, while another one poured a can of tomato soup over him.
“Art is defenceless and the Mauritshuis strongly rejects trying to damage it for whatever purpose,” the museum said in a statement adding that the painting was behind a glass frame and wasn't damaged.
Climate activists have lately targeted artwork as a mark of protest. Earlier, Just Stop Oil activists threw soup over Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers at the National Gallery in London. In Germany, activists on Sunday threw mashed potatoes over Claude Monet’s Les Meules (Haystacks).
