Uber Withdraws From Pakistan Amidst Surging Competition
Uber has decided to pull out of Pakistan citing rising competition from domestic rivals, according to a spokesperson for the company.
Despite Uber's departure, its subsidiary, Careem, will continue to provide ride-hailing services across the nation. Uber acquired Careem in 2019 for $3.1 billion with the intention of maintaining distinct regional services and brands.
In Pakistan, the ride-hailing and sharing apps sector has experienced expansion in recent years. New local players offering more competitive pricing have diminished the dominance of Careem and Uber.
Ride-hailing apps in Pakistan like Bykea, Siayara, Airlift, Bolt, SWVL and InDrive34, offer a range of services, from car rides to motorcycle rides and bus-based commuting solutions, catering to the diverse transportation needs of the Pakistani market.
