Swiss President Announces Geneva As 2027 AI Impact Summit Host
Switzerland’s President Guy Parmelin on Thursday announced that Geneva will host the 2027 AI Impact Summit, speaking to reporters at Switzerland’s Country Pavilion at the Bharat Mandapam complex in New Delhi. He later confirmed the announcement in a post on X.
He said Switzerland would work closely with the United Arab Emirates, which is set to host the 2028 summit, as a partner for the Geneva meet. He added that the Geneva summit would focus on the international law dimensions of AI, with an emphasis on building commonly accepted global rules.
Mr. Parmelin urged smaller nations to “organise” and ensure that the governance of artificial intelligence is not concentrated in the hands of a few major powers. “It is very important that we work together so that the technological future of the world is not just in a few hands of big powers,” he said.
In his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the two leaders discussed cooperation in AI, multilateral engagement and trade, particularly in the context of the 2024 India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement. Both sides agreed to expand collaboration in research, skills development and innovation-led growth.
