OpenAI Rolls Out Age Prediction On ChatGPT Ahead Of Adult Mode Launch
OpenAI is rolling out an age prediction feature globally on ChatGPT to determine whether an account is likely owned by a minor (under 18).
In a statement, OpenAI said, “ChatGPT has extra safety settings for teens. These settings help keep the experience safe and age-appropriate. They can limit some sensitive content and certain kinds of interactions.”
Users incorrectly flagged as minors can verify their age by submitting a selfie through the identity verification service Persona, identity verification service. The feature is expected to launch in the European Union within the next few weeks.
OpenAI also plans to introduce an “adult mode” in ChatGPT in the first quarter of 2026, allowing access to mature content for users who verify their age. ChatGPT currently has around 800 million weekly active users worldwide.
Meanwhile, OpenAI has begun showing advertisements to some users in the United States as part of efforts to boost revenue. The company’s annualized revenue exceeded $20 billion (approximately ₹1.66 trillion) in 2025, a sharp rise from $6 billion (around ₹50,000 crore) in 2024, driven largely by expanded computing capacity.
