Lt General Anil Chauhan (Rtd) Appointed New Chief Of Defence Staff
The government on Wednesday announced to appoint Lt General Anil Chauhan (Retd) as the new Chief of Defence Staff.
The appointment comes almost nine months after the death of General Bipin Rawat who served as the CDS from January 2020 till his death in December 2021 in a chopper crash.
Lt Gen Chauhan has served the military for over 40 years and held several command, staff and instrumental appointments. The government in a statement said Gen Chauhan has had an "extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir and North-East India."
He also held the charge of Director General of Military Operations. Lt Gen Chauhan also served on a United Nations mission to Angola. He retired from the Indian Army on 31 May 2021.
