Maharashtra Bandh

Maharashtra observed a shutdown on Monday to protest the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. At least four farmers were killed in UP's Lakhimpur on Oct 3 after being allegedly mowed down by a convoy of union minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra.
The shutdown call was given by Maharashtra's Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
Incidents of Violence Reported
Few incidents of stone pelting and violence were reported from Mumbai following which the bus services were shut.
Amid reports of violence, NCP leader Nawab Malik urged people maintain peace. "The bandh is being observed peacefully across Maharashtra with widespread public support. There are reports about stone pelting at some places, which is not right. No one should indulge in such activities," Malik said.
The bandh also disrupted the local train services in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the BJP slammed the Maharashtra government for 'forcibly imposing' the bandh call on people. "While the people were opposing the bandh, it was the government officials who were trying to create fear in their minds," BJP MLA Advocate Ashish Shelar said.
