Ketanji Brown Jackson Confirmed To Be US Supreme Court Justice, First Black Woman To Hold The Post
In a historic move, Ketanji Brown Jackson was on Thursday confirmed to the Supreme Court. With this she has become the first black woman to hold the post.
Jackson, 51, has an experience of working as an appeals court judge for nine years on the federal bench.
Jackson will take charge after Justice Stephen Breyer retires this summer, solidifying the liberal wing of the 6-3 conservative-dominated court, AP reported.
Jackson will be the third Black justice, after Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas. She will also be the sixth woman to hold the post.
“This is a tremendously historic day in the White House and in the country,” said White House press secretary Jen Psaki after the vote. “And this is a fulfilment of a promise the president made to the country.”
