Election Commission Data Shows Uneven Donation Trends Across Parties in FY25
The Election Commission has released disclosures filed by political parties showing donations above ₹20,000 received in FY 2024–25. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received more than ₹6,000 crore in donations in 2024–25, up from nearly ₹4,000 crore in 2023–24.
Electoral trusts emerged as the biggest contributors, led by Prudent Electoral Trust with donations of over ₹2,000 crore, followed by Progressive Electoral Trust with more than ₹700 crore. According to Scroll, Progressive Electoral Trust is controlled by the Tata Group, making it the BJP’s largest individual donor.
According to the disclosures, the Indian National Congress for 2024–25 has received more than 500 crores, falling from ₹1,100 crore in 2023-24. Prudent Electoral Trust was the party’s largest donor with contributions of over ₹200 crore, followed by Progressive Electoral Trust with more than ₹77 crore, while Century Plywoods (India) Limited donated around ₹26 crore.
This year, Trinamool Congress donations fall sharply to ₹184.08 crore from ₹618.8 crore last year. Bharat Rashtra Samithi recorded 15.09 crore, a decline from previous compared to ₹580 crore in the previous year.
The Aam Aadmi Party reported an increase in donations, collecting ₹39.2 crore compared to ₹22.1 crore last year. The Telugu Desam Party received ₹85.2 crore in donations, down from ₹274 crore, but also earned ₹102 crore through fees and subscriptions.
The Biju Janata Dal received ₹60 crore in donations in 2024–25, a sharp decline from ₹246 crore in the previous financial year. The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) reported a single donation of ₹50 lakh from Thriveni Earth Movers Pvt Ltd.
