India Vs South Africa: Mohammed Shami, KL Rahul Lead Kohli's Men To First Test Win At Centurion
South Africa began the day needing 211 runs to win the Test with captain Dean Elgar unbeaten on 52. However, the skipper was the first to fall on the final day after Jasprit Bumrah trapped him in front of the wicket.
Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma gave hopes of a fightback with a shaky 31-run stand. However, de Kock perished after chopping on to his stumps off Mohammed Siraj.
Mohammed Shami struck in quick succession to leave the hosts at 180-9. Ravichandran Ashwin, who hadn't yet taken a wicket, came on to claim the last two wickets to bowl out the hosts for 191.
Jasprit Bumrah and Shami picked three wickets each in the second innings with Ashwin and Siraj bagging two wickets each.
KL Rahul was adjudged player of the match for his first innings knock of 123 which set up India's fourth Test win in South Africa.
Rahul Dravid notched his first overseas win as India coach. Incidentally, Dravid was the first Indian captain to win a Test match in South Africa when his team won at Johannesburg in the 2006-07 series. India lead the three match series 1-0 with the second Test to be played at Johannesburg from January 3.
