Glacier Burst: Rescue Op Begins
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) led the rescue operations of the glacier burst that trapped several people in Uttarakhand's Dhauliganga.
Three teams and more than 250 ITBP personnel have been deployed in the rescue mission.
The ITBP personnel carried the rescued persons on stretchers to the nearest road of Tapovan tunnel.
2 teams of NDRF are enroute and 3 additional teams have been flown in from Hindon which will reach the spot later in the night.
SS Deswal, DG, ITBP, told news agency ANI, "There was an under constructed tunnel near Tapovan dam in Uttarakhand where around 20 workers are stranded. ITBP team deployed at site is undertaking rescue operation"
The glacial burst has led to the rising of water levels in the Rishiganga river. Rishiganga small hydro project of 13.2 MW has been washed away
The flood has also affected the downstream hydro protect of NTPC at Tapovan on the Dhauliganga river.
