France Goes A Shade Darker On Its Flag To Evoke Memories of French Revolution
To remember the country's heroic past, French President Emmanuel Macron ordered to change the colour of its national flag. The navy blue on the French tricolour will now be a shade darker.
A presidential official said the changes had been made in the flags placed behind Macron at speeches from 2018. Similar changes were made on flags flying from the Elysee and other presidential buildings from 2020. However, the change was so subtle that it went almost unnoticed.
After 3 years, the change has been noticed after being revealed in a book "Elysee Confidential" published by journalists, Eliot Blondet and Paul Larrouturou.
The official was quoted as saying by AFP that the blue colour in the flag is to remember the heroes who fought in French Revolution and the two world wars.
