Sundar Pichai Warns: Don’t Blindly Trust AI
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, warned people not to “blindly trust” AI, admitting current models are still “prone to errors.” He said AI should be used alongside other tools and not as the sole source of information.
In his BBC interview, Pichai said AI is helpful for creative tasks but users “have to learn to use these tools for what they’re good at.” Despite Google adding disclaimers, its AI tools have still faced criticism for inaccurate responses.
Gina Neff, professor of responsible AI at Queen Mary University of London, said AI systems often “make up answers to please us,” which becomes dangerous for sensitive topics like health or news. She urged Google to take more responsibility instead of shifting accuracy concerns to users.
Google recently launched Gemini 3.0, calling it a “new era of intelligence.” Pichai acknowledged the tension between rapid innovation and safety, saying Alphabet must be “bold and responsible at the same time” as consumers expect fast progress.
Addressing Elon Musk’s past concerns about an AI “dictatorship,” Pichai said no single company should control such powerful technology. He added, “We are far from that scenario right now,” as many players are building AI.
