Nine New Supreme Court Judges Sworn In; Justice BV Nagarthna In Line To Be India's First Female Chief Justice
Chief Justice of India NV Ramana administered the oath to nine newly appointed Supreme Court justices on Tuesday.
Justice AS Oka
Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka was elevated to the SC from the post of the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court with his tenure ending on May 25, 2025.
Justice Vikram Nath
Justice Vikram Nath was the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court before his elevation to the SC. Justice Nath is in line to be the CJI in 2027.
Justice JK Maheswari
Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari served as the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court before his elevation. His tenure will end on June 29, 2026.
Justice Hima Kohli
Justice Hima Kohli served as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court before her elevation. Her tenure will end on September 2, 2024.
Justice BV Nagarathna
Justice B Venkataramiah Nagarathna has been elevated from the Karnataka High Court. Justice Nagarathna will become the first female CJI in 2027.
