New Delhi Gears Up To Host UNESCO's World Heritage Committee Session For The First Time
For the first time, India is set to preside over and organise the session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee in New Delhi, scheduled from July 21 to 31 this year.
The announcement was made by Vishal V Sharma, Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO, on Tuesday.
Verifying the particulars, the official statement from UNESCO affirmed, “At its 19th extraordinary session (UNESCO, 2023), the World Heritage Committee decided that its 46th session will take place in India.”
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations, committed to fostering global peace and security through international collaboration in education, arts, science, and culture.
The World Heritage Committee of UNESCO gathers annually and is composed of representatives from 21 member states.
This committee holds a crucial role in globally acknowledging cultural and natural heritage, adding to the esteemed compilation of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
