India Drops Six Spots To Rank 144 On Passport Index 2023

The Indian passport slipped six ranks, from 138 to 144, on the Passport Index 2023. The index compares the passports of 193 United Nations members and six selected territories.

Released by financial advisory services firm Arton Capital, the index gave India a mobility score of 70. The mobility score is used to decide the rankings of the index.

The score is the number of countries that can be easily accessed with a passport. It is calculated by adding the total countries which allow visa-free travel, visa-on-arrival and eVisa issued within three days to a passport.

The passport index isn't the first. India has ranked poorly on several indexes in recent times. On the World Happiness Index 2023, India ranked 126th out of 137 countries.

India ranked 8th in the list of 131 countries with the worst air quality index, according to the Annual World Air Quality Report, released by IQAir on March 15, 2023.

India ranked 107 out of 121 countries on the Global Hunger Index 2022, released in October 2022. The indicators for the index include undernourishment, child stunting, and child mortality
