Delhi Police Register FIR Over Gen Naravane Memoir Circulation
Delhi Police has registered an FIR on Monday through its Special Cell to investigate the alleged circulation of an unpublished memoir by former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane.
The book, titled Four Stars of Destiny, is yet to receive mandatory clearance from the Army, a requirement for all books dealing with operational or sensitive military matters. Penguin Random House India clarified it holds exclusive rights to General Naravane’s “Four Stars of Destiny”, which has not yet been published.
The FIR was filed after police took cognisance of media reports and social media posts claiming that pre-print PDF versions of the book were being circulated online.
Police also found that some websites hosted typeset copies of the book, while online marketing platforms displayed its cover as if the book was already available for sale.
The issue escalated politically after Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, cited excerpts published by The Caravan to criticise the Modi government over its handling of Chinese aggression in eastern Ladakh in 2020.
In a video posted on his X handle, he further said, “I don't think PM (Narendra Modi) will have the guts to come to the Lok Sabha today, because if he comes, I'm going to give him this book. So, if the PM comes, I will go physically and hand him this book.”
