Bose Resigns As West Bengal Governor Ahead Of Polls; Centre Announces Sweeping Reshuffle
West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose resigned from his post on Thursday, triggering political speculation over the timing of his departure just before the state assembly elections.
Confirming his resignation to PTI from Delhi, Bose said, “Yes, I have resigned. I have been the Governor of Bengal for three-and-a-half years; it's enough for me.” President Droupadi Murmu accepted his resignation, Rashtrapati Bhavan confirmed in an official communiqué.
Following Bose’s resignation, R. N. Ravi, currently serving as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal as part of a wider reshuffle announced by the Centre.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reacted sharply to the development, saying she was "shocked and deeply concerned" by the abrupt resignation. She alleged that the Centre had not consulted her before naming Ravi as the new Governor.
The reshuffle extends beyond West Bengal. Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed Governor of Bihar, while Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, incumbent Governor of Kerala, will additionally discharge the functions of Governor of Tamil Nadu in an interim capacity.
Among other appointments, Vinai Kumar Saxena has been named Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta will serve as Governor of Himachal Pradesh, and Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
