Joe Biden has nominated 20 Indian-Americans to various positions in his White House with five nominated to key posts in his administration.
Neera Tanden
Tanden has been nominated as director of the White House Office of Management and Budget. A Yale graduate, Tanden worked for Bill Clinton's administration and helped Hillary Clinton during her 2008 and 2016 presidential bids.
Vivek Murthy
Murthy served as the surgeon general of the United States from 2014 to 2017 when he was fired by the Donald Trump administration. Murthy has been critical of gun violence and has worked on the health effects of climate change while also speaking out against conversion therapy.
Uzra Zeya
Zeya has been nominated as Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights. Zeya served in the Obama administration and worked in the US Embassy in Paris. Zeya had quit the foreign service in 2018 in protest against Donald Trump's policies.
Vanita Gupta
Gupta has been nominated to the post of Associate Attorney General. A New York University School of Law graduate, Gupta was part of the Department of Justice under the Obama administration. Gupta has worked for the American Civil Liberties Union and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
Vinay Reddy
Reddy is the Director of Speechwriting in the Biden White House and served as Senior Advisor and Speechwriter for the Biden-Harris Campaign. Reddy was Biden's chief speechwriter during his second term as Vice President.
