Jaguar Land Rover Cyberattack Halts UK Production Until October
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), Britain’s biggest carmaker owned by Tata Motors, has extended the shutdown of its UK factories until October 1 following a massive cyberattack in early September.
The ransomware attack has crippled production across its three UK plants, which normally produce around 1,000 cars daily. According to the report by JLR, the company is losing nearly £50 million (₹450 crore) per week, with many of its 33,000 employees forced to stay home without pay.
A hacking group on Telegram, calling itself Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters, claimed responsibility, linking the breach to notorious collectives such as Scattered Spider, Lapsus$, and Shiny Hunters.
Industry sources revealed that the automaker had failed to secure cyber insurance before the attack, leaving it uninsured against direct losses.
The UK government has stepped in, with business minister Peter Kyle and industry minister Chris McDonald visiting JLR executives to discuss recovery efforts and supply chain stability.
Meanwhile, S&P Global reported a decline in UK manufacturing output, citing JLR’s shutdown as a major factor impacting the automotive supply chain.
