Indonesia Is Changing Its Capital And Here’s Why

On January 19, the Indonesian government passed a new bill to replace capital Jakarta, and named the new upcoming capital city Nusantara, meaning archipelago in Indonesian.
Back in 2019, president Joko Widodo shared govt's plan to transfer the national capital, stating Jakarta's alarming environmental issues, affected by overpopulation, water-air pollution and traffic congestion.
Through the tweet, he wrote, “The government has conducted an in-depth study, especially in the last three years. As a result, the most ideal location for the new capital city is in East Kalimantan, partly in Kab. Penajam Paser Utara and some in Kab. Kutai Kartanegara.”
The new capital Nusantara is located in East Kalimantan, situated in eastern Borneo Islands. The New State Capital Law Bill visualizes Nusantara as a world-city, helping Jakarta to fight its flooding issues.
