Covid-19 Surge Across The Globe

After months of lull and comparatively lower Covid-19 cases, certain countries have started registering gradual uptick in new cases.
China Pulls Up its Covid Guard
China has witnessed new outbreaks of Covid-19. To tackle the situation, flights have been cancelled and schools are being shut. While the number of cases is comparatively low, there has been a spike in the past one week.
According to reports, the new outbreak is being traced back to an elderly couple. They were traveling in a group of other tourists and started in Shanghai and then flew to Xi'an, Gansu province and Inner Mongolia. The government has now rolled out mass testing, and ordered closure of scenic spots and tourist sites, schools and entertainment venues in affected areas.
Experts Ring Alarm Bell in UK
Health experts in UK have sounded alarm over the possibility of a new Delta sub-variant of coroanavirus that is causing the new surge in cases there. For over a week now, UK has been logging more than 40,000 daily cases.

More Contagious Variant in Russia
A more contagious variant of coronavirus is being reported from Russia. The country has reported "isolated cases" of Covid-19, according to Reuters. The researchers said the AY.4.2 subvariant may be around 10% more infectious than the Delta variant.
The same subvariant is being attributed to recent spike in the UK. However, experts have said the vaccines are 'effective enough against this version of the virus'.
