Tractor Rally Turns Violent

Protesting farmers and the Delhi Police clashed on Republic Day with a section of farmers breaching the Red Fort.

Ahead of the tractor rally, many roads were barricaded by the Delhi Police.

However, farmers broke through the barricades before the allotted time of 10 am and marched into Delhi.

The tractor rally got underway from protest sites at Singhu (pictured), Tikri and Ghazipur borders.
Protestors Reach Central Delhi
Protestors reached ITO in central Delhi by mid morning.
Clashes Reported In Various Parts Of Delhi
Violence was also reported at Nangloi Chowk, Chintamani Chowk and Mukarba Chowk.
Police Resort To Lathi Charge
In response, police resorted to lathi charging protestors.
Tear Gas Fired At Farmers
At ITO where the clashes were fierce, police also used tear gas on farmers.
One Death Reported
Navneet Singh from Bajpur, Uttarakhand was killed after the tractor he was traveling on met with an accident near Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.
Protestors Attack Police Personnel
Protestors attacked police and vandalised a DTC bus forcing police personnel to retreat.
Red Fort Breached
By afternoon, a section of farmers breached the Red Fort complex.

Leaders Blame "Anti-social" Elements For Violence
Bharat Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait alleged that the chaos was orchestrated by people belonging to political parties. Tikait also said that a majority of the protests were peaceful.
Rally Held Peacefully Elsewhere
Despite the violence elsewhere, the tractor rally was held peacefully with farmers being welcomed in parts of the city.
