'Exceptional, Incomparable, Unique': Pelè Is Now A Word In Brazilian Dictionary
Pelé, the legendary football player, has been immortalised in a Brazilian dictionary by being added as an adjective to define someone who is "exceptional, incomparable, unique".
According to the dictionary, Pelé now means, "The one that is extraordinary, or who because of his quality, value or superiority cannot be matched to anything or anyone, just like Pele, considered the best athlete of all time; exceptional, incomparable, unique."
Citing examples of its usage, it read, "He is the Pelé of basketball, she is the Pelé of tennis, she is the Pelé of Brazilian theater, he is the Pelé of medicine."
Pelé, a three-time World Cup winner who is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time, died in December 2022 at the age of 82.
